Let’s face it, very few of us have much patience for traffic wardens or anything parking ticket related, so we can all sympathise with the woman who believes she has been issued with ‘Britain’s harshest ever parking ticket’.
It is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
Rebecca Edge was somehow issued a £50 fine by Torbay Council for turning her wheels barely an inch over the white line of a parking bay.
Seriously, just look at what she’s been fined for…
Rebecca took several pictures of the offending wheel and shared them to Facebook, outraged at what she was being fined for.
The 35-year-old said, “It is tricky to park there and the wheel has gone just about an inch over the line. If you get down on the floor then one edge of the tyre is slightly over, but the entire body of the car is within the bay.
“It just seems so ridiculous and very petty. It feels incredibly unfair.
“We went to Cockington for a walk with our twins and parked in the main car park right in the village.
“We managed to squeeze into a corner. When we got back we could not work out why we had got the ticket. We thought it must have been a mistake.
“I opened it up and read through and it is said we had not been within the parked bays. I looked around and could not believe it.”
We can’t believe it either. Rebecca has, rightfully, appealed the decision, although Torbay Council have yet to respond to her.
A spokesperson for the council said, “When we receive a challenge to a penalty charge notice we need to investigate it fully, and therefore it would not be appropriate for us to comment further on the case at this stage.”
Let’s hope common sense prevails for once.
